Our Vows

We are gathered here in the presence of family and friends to unite Edwin and Renee in matrimony.  Marriage is a confirmation in two people’s lives.  Confirmation of what they feel in their soul and their hearts.  These two people have proven their love for each other by showing up here today, showing the world that they want none other than the one that stands before them.

Marriage is a path in life, a path that they will now go together on.  This road goes through many terrains, from the highest mountain peak to the lowest valley, carried across the seas and over deserts.  There will be bumps in the road where each of them will need to lean on each other for support.  There are curves to there the destination is unseen and darkness where they need to look to each other for comfort and direction.  There will be gaps where they will need to builds a bridge to cross and there will be wide open spaces where each of them will know that the other is always with them even if they aren’t in sight.  Edwin and Renee choose this path willingly and lovingly for they know it to be the right path for them.

Please face each other and join hands.

Do you Edwin take Renee to be your lawful wedded wife?

I do.

Please say your vows.

My dear one, I promise on this wonderful day to love you as you stand before me and to love you forever.  Time and circumstance will change us and those around us.  I know you will always be beautiful in my eyes.  The gift of love is the gift of understanding and of accepting.  True love is as the seasons, changing and bonding as we go along.  The part of us that must not change is the love and respect we hold for one another.  The winters will chill us, the light of reality may take the bloom from our cheeks, but the fire in our hearts will remain.  I will love you with the tint of gold in your hair today, and with the silver in your hair tomorrow.  What is most dear to me is inside of you and that will ever be young.  I love you.

Do you Renee take Edwin to be your lawful wedded husband?

I do.

Please say your vows.

My love, here we are, just as we have been to each other these many years leading up to this our wedding day.  We have loved and waited, wondered and quarreled, changed our minds and then changed our minds again.  But, here we are, and I do love you and I plan to be with you forever.  Today, wrapped in your youthful charm, you sweep me into marriage.  For the rest of our lives, through the changing times and seasons, we will grow with each other and still be desperately in love.  I love you as you are and as you will become.  I love you now, I will love you forever.

As a token of your vows you will each place a ring upon each others hand.  These rings are an outward sign of the endless love and commitment you share.  For as the circle of gold never ends, neither will the circle of love between you.

Place the ring on the bride’s left hand and repeat after me.

This ring I give thee, in token and pledge, of my constant faith and everlasting love in you.  With this ring, I thee wed.

Place the ring on the groom’s left hand and repeat after me.

This ring I give thee, in token and pledge, of my constant faith and everlasting love in you.  With this ring, I thee wed.

Edwin and Renee, may your future together bring eternal joy and happiness.  May you encourage each other in whatever you set out to achieve.  May you continue to love each other forever as husband and wife, remembering always to be each other’s best friends.  Wherever your lives may lead, dedicate yourselves each day one to the other.

Now that you have been joined in solemn matrimony, may your future together bring you eternal happiness and may you always fulfill this commitment with the same love and affection for each other as you fell today.

Now by the virtue of the authority vested in me as a deputy civil marriage commissioner, I pronounce you husband and wife.  You may kiss your bride.
